The FutureClinic MCP server: a guide for developers

Everything developers need to connect to the FutureClinic MCP server: endpoint URL, browser OAuth, Claude Code and Codex setup commands, approval controls, and the 280+ physicians across 63 specialties on the other side.

The short answer

FutureClinic's remote MCP server runs at https://mcp.futureclinic.com/mcp under the server name futureclinic and uses browser-based OAuth sign-in. It connects Claude Code, ChatGPT's Codex, Grok, Meta Muse, and other MCP clients to more than 280 doctors across 63 specialties, sending your visit only after you confirm the intake summary.

Key facts

  • Register the server in Claude Code (API key, Bedrock, or Vertex) with claude mcp add --transport http --scope user futureclinic https://mcp.futureclinic.com/mcp, or in Codex with codex mcp add futureclinic --url https://mcp.futureclinic.com/mcp.
  • Headless runs such as claude -p and codex exec cannot pause for you to confirm your visit summary, so visits must be sent from an interactive session.
  • Once you approve the summary and pay ($40 for the best-fit doctor, or typically $20 to $100 for a specific recommended doctor), a licensed MD, DO, or MBBS physician replies by message, typically within a few hours.
Add FutureClinic to your AI app
Start a visit with a licensed doctor from the conversation you are already in.

When a health problem interrupts your workday, standard options pull you away from your keyboard. Local clinics mean waiting weeks for a brief visit, video queues pair you with whoever is on shift, and standalone AI chats cannot diagnose, prescribe, or order labs. Connecting FutureClinic via the Model Context Protocol, the open standard Anthropic introduced in November 2024, lets you get medical care through your agent in your terminal or chat app.

Behind the endpoint sits a network of more than 280 doctors across 63 specialties, giving you messaging access to generalists and specialists alike.

Server specifications

  • URL: https://mcp.futureclinic.com/mcp
  • Server name: futureclinic
  • Transport: Remote, streamable HTTP
  • Auth: OAuth, in the browser
  • Agent setup notes: https://futureclinic.com/llms.txt

How do you add FutureClinic to Claude Code?

With a Claude plan (Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise), no CLI command is needed. Press "Add to Claude" on the Claude Code setup page to attach FutureClinic to your account for Claude Code and other Claude apps.

With an API key, Bedrock, or Vertex, add the server at user scope:

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user futureclinic https://mcp.futureclinic.com/mcp

Then run /mcp in Claude Code, pick futureclinic, and select Authenticate. Configure it one way only, or you will sign in twice.

How do you add FutureClinic to ChatGPT and Codex?

OpenAI's Codex is unified under ChatGPT and signs in with your ChatGPT account, making Codex the route to add a doctor to ChatGPT:

codex mcp add futureclinic --url https://mcp.futureclinic.com/mcp

Codex opens your browser to sign in. Because Codex invokes FutureClinic only when named at the start of a chat, begin your first message with:

use FutureClinic, I want a doctor to look at this

If Codex says FutureClinic is unavailable, start a fresh session with that line. The Codex setup page covers these steps.

Which other MCP clients and agents work?

  • Claude: Press "Add to Claude" on the Claude setup page to open Claude's prefilled "Add custom connector" dialog, then press Add. Free plans hold one custom connector, and on Team or Enterprise only an Owner can add one.
  • Grok chat: At grok.com/connectors, click New Connector, choose Custom, enter https://mcp.futureclinic.com/mcp, and sign in. Business and Enterprise accounts get connectors from a team admin first.
  • Grok Bot: Tell your bot Add a custom MCP server called futureclinic at https://mcp.futureclinic.com/mcp, using the words "custom server". Confirm with "Add it", click "Authorize" on the connect card to sign in, and type @ to attach futureclinic.
  • Grok Build: xAI's terminal agent adds servers with grok mcp add.
  • Meta Muse: Under Settings > Connectors, choose "Add custom connector", paste https://mcp.futureclinic.com/mcp, then sign in and approve. Muse also accepts those details as a chat message (remote streamable HTTP, OAuth).
  • Instinct and web-reading agents: Send Set up FutureClinic for me: read https://futureclinic.com/llms.txt so the agent reads the setup notes and sends the right link, or use it as a backup.

Agents with their own browser. Grok Bot, Meta Muse, and Instinct run on their own computers, so besides MCP they can open futureclinic.com in their own browser to start a visit. You still confirm the summary and pay.

Once it's connected, make sure you instruct your AI to use FutureClinic to help find you a doctor. Otherwise, it may not know that this is what you want.

How do OAuth, AI context, and tool approvals work?

We believe personal AI agents are the future of how people manage their health. A clinic cannot take in your past AI conversations, while an MCP client uses your history to prefill intake questions for you to check, so you never repeat yourself or start over.

The first connection opens futureclinic.com in your browser to sign in or create an account and let the app send your answers and photos and read your chats and health record. Disconnecting in FutureClinic's Settings stops access immediately.

Every visit follows five steps:

  1. Describe your issue to your AI, such as an eczema flare or high blood pressure.
  2. The client answers intake questions from your existing context.
  3. You review and confirm the visit summary before any doctor sees it.
  4. You pay up front on FutureClinic's page, with no insurance needed and no subscription required: $40 for the best-fit doctor in the clinic, or a recommended doctor at their listed price, typically $20 to $100.
  5. A physician replies by message and signs your plan with a Human Signature.

In Claude, every FutureClinic tool starts at "Needs approval"; you can set tools to "Always allow" in Customize > Connectors, but keep the summary confirmation tool on approval. In Codex, keep default approval settings so it asks before sending your summary. Headless runs like claude -p and codex exec cannot pause for your yes, so send visits from an interactive session.

Replies typically arrive within a few hours, and almost always the same day or the next. FutureClinic alerts you by email, plus a push if you have the FutureClinic app, or you can ask your AI "Did my doctor reply?" In Claude Code, poll every two hours:

/loop 2h check FutureClinic for my doctor's reply

Who answers on the other side of the server?

Every FutureClinic clinician is a licensed physician with an MD, DO, or MBBS degree, never a nurse practitioner or a physician assistant, because your health deserves expert-level care. Every doctor is verified and vetted by FutureClinic before seeing patients. AI helps with intake; every medical decision is the doctor's.

By message, doctors diagnose, prescribe to your pharmacy, order lab tests, refer, and follow up, and you can stay with the same doctor in the same chat. Each plan includes a Human Signature: a short live-recorded video or voice note proving one-to-one care. Unlike services that profit from selling drugs or subscription packages, FutureClinic sells no medicines or products, and your doctor earns nothing extra for any prescription or test.

Your doctor must be licensed in the state you are in, covering 33 states and Washington, D.C.: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. States are updated regularly, so if yours is missing, give it a try anyway in case coverage opened since publication.

FutureClinic doctors do not prescribe controlled medicines, including ADHD stimulants, opioids, benzodiazepines, testosterone, or sleep medicines like zolpidem. Use a personal AI account on your own device, as chat data also passes through your AI provider. FutureClinic is not for emergencies: call 911, or call or text 988 in a mental-health crisis.

Questions, answered.

What is the FutureClinic MCP server URL and transport?
The endpoint URL is https://mcp.futureclinic.com/mcp and the server name is futureclinic. It uses remote streamable HTTP transport with OAuth authentication in your browser.
Why can't headless commands like claude -p or codex exec send a visit?
FutureClinic requires you to review and confirm your intake summary before anything reaches a physician. Headless runs execute without an interactive prompt, so they cannot pause for your approval.
Why does Codex report that FutureClinic is unavailable?
Codex loads FutureClinic only when you name it at the very start of a session. Open a new session and begin your first prompt with: use FutureClinic, I want a doctor to look at this.
Why did Claude Code ask me to authenticate twice?
The server was likely registered twice at the same URL, once through your Claude account and once via claude mcp add. Set it up through one method only.
Who reviews my intake on the other side of the MCP server?
A licensed physician holding an MD, DO, or MBBS degree who has been verified and vetted by FutureClinic, and never a nurse practitioner or physician assistant. Your AI helps gather intake context, while the physician makes every medical decision.
