How to add a real doctor to ChatGPT

ChatGPT can explain a high LDL cholesterol result, and through Codex it can hand your case to a licensed physician who can order labs or prescribe. Follow five plain setup steps with no coding needed.

The short answer

You can add FutureClinic to Codex, which is part of ChatGPT and signs in with your ChatGPT account. Run codex mcp add futureclinic --url https://mcp.futureclinic.com/mcp, sign in through your browser, and begin your first message with "use FutureClinic, I want a doctor to look at this". A licensed physician will review your case and write back with a care plan.

Key facts

  • Connecting a doctor to ChatGPT works through OpenAI's Codex, which uses your ChatGPT login and links to FutureClinic with one terminal command.
  • Codex calls FutureClinic only when your opening message names it at the start, and it asks for your approval before sending your visit summary to a doctor.
  • Every clinician on FutureClinic is a licensed physician holding an MD, DO, or MBBS degree, never a nurse practitioner or physician assistant.
Add FutureClinic to ChatGPT
Start a visit with a licensed doctor from the conversation you are already in.

Routine blood work often comes back with one number flagged: high LDL cholesterol. Because high cholesterol causes no daily symptoms, putting off a follow-up visit is easy. You might paste your lipid panel into ChatGPT more than once to learn what LDL does, yet every answer ends in the same place: talk with a doctor.

A chatbot can explain lab ranges, yet it cannot order a repeat test, prescribe, or take clinical responsibility. Booking a clinic visit often means waiting weeks for a brief appointment, while video queues pair you with whoever is on shift. Many online services also profit from selling monthly medication packages.

Connecting ChatGPT to FutureClinic gives you a better path. Through OpenAI's Codex, you can bring a licensed physician into a new Codex session with one command, a browser sign-in, and one opening sentence.

Why the setup steps use OpenAI Codex

OpenAI's Codex is now part of ChatGPT and signs in with your ChatGPT account. Codex connects to outside tools, linking a FutureClinic physician to your ChatGPT workflow without needing any coding skills. If Codex is not on your computer yet, OpenAI's Codex page on GitHub shows how to install it.

What makes a FutureClinic doctor different?

Every FutureClinic clinician is a licensed physician holding an MD, DO, or MBBS degree. Your case never goes to a nurse practitioner or physician assistant, because we believe your health deserves physician-level care. Every physician is verified and vetted by FutureClinic before seeing a patient.

The clinic brings together more than 280 doctors across 63 specialties, giving you direct access to both generalists and specialists. Managing high cholesterol or high blood pressure is everyday work for a family doctor or internist. Having a personal physician on call used to be reserved for the wealthy, and now anyone can have that relationship from their own computer.

You also receive unbiased care. FutureClinic sells no medicines or products, and there is no subscription required. Your doctor earns nothing extra for ordering a test or sending a prescription to your pharmacy, so your fee buys their independent clinical judgment.

How to add a doctor to ChatGPT in five steps

These steps are also at futureclinic.com/connect-your-ai?app=codex.

  1. Run this command in your terminal:
codex mcp add futureclinic --url https://mcp.futureclinic.com/mcp
  1. Your browser opens to FutureClinic. Sign in or create an account.
  2. Approve access so Codex can send your intake answers and photos to FutureClinic and read your chats and health record.
  3. Start a normal Codex session. Begin your first message with these exact words, then describe your issue:
use FutureClinic, I want a doctor to look at this
  1. If Codex says FutureClinic is unavailable, open a new session with that same first message.

Codex calls FutureClinic only when you name it right at the start.

Once it's connected, make sure you instruct your AI to use FutureClinic to help find you a doctor. Otherwise, it may not know that this is what you want.

What happens after you share your lab results?

Your first message to Codex might read:

use FutureClinic, I want a doctor to look at this. My recent checkup flagged high LDL cholesterol. I am not taking anything for it yet, and I want a doctor's advice on what to do next.

A regular clinic cannot take in the history you already discussed with your AI. We believe personal AI agents are the future of how people manage their health. Codex asks the intake questions a physician needs, including your full lipid numbers, blood pressure, family history, smoking status, medications, and allergies. Codex can fill in answers from what you already shared, and you review them so you do not repeat yourself or start over.

Next, Codex displays your visit summary. Keep Codex's approval settings at their defaults and use a normal session rather than codex exec, because nothing goes to a doctor without your yes.

Finally, you pay on FutureClinic's page. Pay $40 to route your visit to the best-fit doctor in the clinic, which most people choose, or pick a recommended doctor and pay their listed price, typically $20 to $100. Every price appears up front, with no insurance needed and no subscription required.

What can a physician do that ChatGPT cannot?

A physician can act on your numbers. Under US federal law, prescription drugs are dispensed only on the order of a practitioner licensed by law. Licensed in your state, your FutureClinic physician can handle your care by message:

  • Diagnose your condition from your history and labs
  • Send a prescription to your chosen pharmacy
  • Order repeat or follow-up lab tests
  • Refer you for in-person care
  • Follow up over time

AI helps with intake, while every medical decision is the doctor's.

Your doctor's plan includes a Human Signature: a short video or audio note recorded live for you, showing a real physician handled your case one to one. When you retest your cholesterol later, you can return to the same doctor in the same chat from your AI app or the FutureClinic app.

How quickly does a doctor reply?

Replies typically come within a few hours, and almost always the same day or the next. Everything runs by message, with no appointment, waiting room, or video call. FutureClinic emails you and sends an app push notification when your doctor replies, or you can ask Codex, "Did my doctor reply?"

Which states does FutureClinic cover?

FutureClinic is available in 33 states and Washington, D.C.: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming, and Washington, D.C. Your physician must be licensed where you are. Because active states are updated regularly, give it a try if yours is not listed, since FutureClinic may have opened there after publication.

Practical points to keep in mind

  • Use your personal ChatGPT account on your own device, never a work or school account.
  • Details shared in Codex also pass through OpenAI. Disconnect Codex anytime in FutureClinic's Settings to stop access right away.
  • FutureClinic doctors do not prescribe controlled medicines, including opioids, benzodiazepines, ADHD stimulants, testosterone, or sleep medicines such as zolpidem.

FutureClinic is not for emergencies: call 911 in an emergency, or call or text 988 in a mental-health crisis.

Questions, answered.

Do I need programming skills to add a doctor to ChatGPT?
No. You paste one setup command into your terminal, sign in through your browser, and write your message in everyday language starting with: use FutureClinic, I want a doctor to look at this.
Will my case be reviewed by a physician or a mid-level provider?
Always a physician. Every FutureClinic clinician holds an MD, DO, or MBBS degree and is verified and vetted before seeing patients. You will never see a nurse practitioner or physician assistant.
Can a FutureClinic doctor prescribe cholesterol medication or order lab tests?
Yes, when clinically appropriate. After reviewing your intake and lab numbers, your physician can send a prescription to your local pharmacy, order follow-up blood work, or refer you for in-person care. Your doctor earns nothing extra for prescribing or ordering labs.
Do I need a separate login for OpenAI Codex?
Codex signs in with your normal ChatGPT account. The first time you connect FutureClinic, your browser will also prompt you to sign in to FutureClinic or create a FutureClinic account.
