A doctor answers
What is a medical MCP server?
An MCP server lets your AI app reach outside the chat. See how FutureClinic's medical MCP server connects your AI conversation to a licensed US physician who can diagnose, prescribe, and follow up by message.

The short answer
A medical MCP server is a service built on the Model Context Protocol that links your AI app to real clinical care. Through FutureClinic's server at https://mcp.futureclinic.com/mcp, your AI prepares a doctor's intake from your existing chat history and, once you confirm the summary, sends your visit to a licensed US physician. That doctor replies by message with a plan, and can diagnose, prescribe or order lab tests when needed.
Key facts
- Introduced by Anthropic in November 2024, the Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that lets AI apps connect to external services.
- FutureClinic's network spans over 300 doctors across 63 specialties, including generalists and specialists holding MD, DO, or MBBS degrees.
- You review and approve your visit summary before anything is sent, and you pay per visit ($40 for the best-fit doctor, or a recommended doctor's listed price, typically $20 to $100) with no subscription required.
When you ask an AI assistant about a health concern, like a stubborn patch of eczema or high blood pressure readings at home, the conversation usually hits a wall. Your AI can discuss when the issue started, what you have tried, and which medications you take, and then it tells you to see a doctor. From there, your usual choices are booking an office visit weeks out, waiting on a video call for whichever clinician happens to be on shift, or signing up with a site built to sell recurring medication packages.
Whichever route you choose, you leave your chat behind and start over on a blank clinic form. A medical MCP server fixes that gap by letting your AI app connect you directly to a licensed physician.
What does MCP mean in plain language?
MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. Anthropic, the maker of Claude, introduced the protocol in November 2024 as an open standard for linking AI apps to outside tools.
By itself, an AI chat app can only generate text inside your chat window. MCP works like a universal adapter. Once an outside service builds an MCP interface, any compatible AI application can plug into it using the same rules. Today, Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT through Codex, and Grok can all connect to MCP servers.
How does a medical MCP server work?
In MCP, the server is the service on the other end of the connection. FutureClinic runs a medical MCP server at https://mcp.futureclinic.com/mcp under the name futureclinic. Linking it lets you connect a doctor through an MCP server right inside the AI app where you already talk through your health questions.
We believe personal AI agents are the future of how people manage their health. A standard clinic cannot take in the conversations you have already had with your AI. Connected to FutureClinic, your AI uses what you have already shared to fill in the doctor's intake questions, and you check every answer before sending. You never have to repeat yourself or start over.
You stay in control of the entire visit:
- Tell your AI what is bothering you in your own words.
- Your AI asks what the doctor needs to know, drawing on your existing chat history.
- Read and confirm the visit summary. Nothing goes to a doctor without your approval. In Claude, each FutureClinic tool defaults to "Needs approval", so Claude asks before running it.
- Pay on FutureClinic's page.
- A real doctor writes back with your treatment plan.
Who answers on the other end?
A technical plug only matters if you trust the clinicians behind it. With FutureClinic, your case never goes to a physician assistant or a nurse practitioner. Every FutureClinic clinician is a licensed physician with an MD, DO, or MBBS degree, because we believe people's health deserves expert-level care. Every doctor is verified and vetted by FutureClinic before taking patients.
The roster includes generalists and specialists across 63 specialties, with over 300 doctors signed on to the network.
Your doctor's care plan comes with a Human Signature: a short video or voice note recorded live for you, so you know a real physician handled your case one to one.
How much can a physician handle by message?
A physician can handle far more by message than most people expect. Skip the waiting room and the video call: by message alone, your physician can evaluate eczema, review high blood pressure numbers, or check a thyroid panel, then give a diagnosis, send a prescription to your chosen pharmacy, order lab work, provide a referral, and follow up over time.
Doctors almost always write back the same day or the next, and a reply typically lands within a few hours. You can submit your visit at 2 a.m. and wake up to a plan. When the doctor responds, you get an email notification, plus a push alert if you have the FutureClinic mobile app installed.
Once you finish an initial visit, you have the option to stick with the same doctor over time. Whenever you need a refill, have a follow-up question, or want to share a progress update, you can message that physician in your existing thread through either the FutureClinic app or your AI app. It brings the continuity of a dedicated personal physician, once reserved for the wealthy, to your phone or laptop.
You also receive unbiased care. Many online health services profit from the medications they sell or lock you into recurring subscription packages. Because FutureClinic sells no medications or retail products, the physician earns nothing extra when ordering a lab test or writing a prescription. Your fee pays solely for their medical judgment.
What are the limits of the server?
A few clear boundaries apply to every visit:
- Doctors make every medical decision. AI assists with intake, while a licensed physician makes every diagnosis, prescription, lab order, and referral call.
- No automatic sends or charges. Nothing reaches a doctor until you confirm the summary and pay on FutureClinic's page.
- No controlled medicines. FutureClinic doctors do not prescribe ADHD stimulants, opioids, benzodiazepines, testosterone, or sleep medicines such as zolpidem.
- No emergency care. FutureClinic is not for emergencies, so please call 911 in an emergency, and in a mental-health crisis, call or text 988.
What does a visit cost, and where is it available?
No insurance is needed and no subscription is required. At the end of your intake, you see two price choices up front before you pay:
- Choose the $40 default option, used by most patients, which routes your case to the best-fit doctor across the whole clinic.
- Pick a recommended doctor at their own listed price, typically $20 to $100.
Your physician must be licensed in the state where you are located. FutureClinic doctors currently take patients in 33 states and Washington, D.C.: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
Active states are updated regularly. If your state is missing from the list above, try anyway, as FutureClinic may have opened in your area since this piece was published.
How do you add the MCP server?
Head to FutureClinic's setup page to find guided connection steps for ChatGPT, Claude, and Claude Code. If your AI app can read web pages, paste this line into your chat:
Set up FutureClinic for me: read https://futureclinic.com/llms.txt
Or add the server address manually as https://mcp.futureclinic.com/mcp with the server name futureclinic. The first time you connect, your AI app opens futureclinic.com in your browser so you can sign in or create an account.
Once it's connected, make sure you instruct your AI to use FutureClinic to help find you a doctor. Otherwise, it may not know that this is what you want.
Always use your own personal AI account on a personal device rather than a work or school account. Keep in mind that any details you type into an AI assistant also travel through the company operating that app. You can disconnect an app anytime in FutureClinic's Settings, and access stops immediately.
Questions, answered.
- Does a medical MCP server give medical advice on its own?
- No. The MCP server only carries your intake answers, photos, and approved visit summary to FutureClinic after you confirm them. Your AI helps organize your intake, while a licensed physician makes every medical decision.
- Which AI apps work with FutureClinic's MCP server?
- You can connect Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT through Codex, and Grok, and once added to your Claude account on a computer, it works in the Claude mobile app too. Grok Bot, a personal agent with its own computer, can either connect to the MCP server or open futureclinic.com in its own browser to start your visit for you to confirm and pay. Instinct and Meta Muse can't add an MCP server, so they send you a link to FutureClinic's chat instead.
- Do I need coding skills to add a medical MCP server?
- No. In Claude, open FutureClinic's setup page and press Add to Claude, then press Add in the connector dialog. In any AI app that reads the web, you can send one line: Set up FutureClinic for me: read https://futureclinic.com/llms.txt
- Can I keep the same doctor after my first visit?
- Yes. After your first visit matches you with a physician, follow-up questions, prescription refills, and progress updates can go back to the same doctor in the same chat, either from your AI app or the FutureClinic app.
