A doctor answers

Message a dermatologist from your AI chat

Hair thinning at the crown fits message-based dermatology well. Learn what to share with your AI, how to capture clear scalp photos, and why staying with the same doctor matters over the months ahead.

The short answer

Link FutureClinic to ChatGPT, Claude, or another AI app to share your skin, hair, or nail concern along with clear photos. You can send your visit for $40 to the best-fit physician from the whole clinic or choose a recommended doctor at their listed rate, typically $20 to $100. A licensed doctor replies by message with a tailored treatment plan, and you can stay with that same doctor for future check-ins.

Key facts

  • More than 280 doctors practice on FutureClinic spanning 63 specialties, including both generalists and specialists like dermatologists.
  • Once your first visit wraps up, you can send progress photos, refill requests, and follow-up questions back to the same doctor in the same chat thread.
  • FutureClinic sells no medications or hair products, and your physician earns nothing extra when ordering lab work or sending a prescription to your local pharmacy.
Add FutureClinic to your AI app
Start a visit with a licensed doctor from the conversation you are already in.

You spot it first in an overhead photo or under bright bathroom lighting: the part at the crown of your head looks wider than it did last year. A hand mirror barely shows the angle, and searching online mostly leads to storefronts pushing monthly hair kits before anyone has asked about your health history.

Compare the usual options. Booking an in-person dermatology visit often means waiting weeks for a rushed slot, while a standard video queue matches you with whoever happens to be working that hour. Talking with an AI helps you sort through possibilities, though prescription medications require an order from a licensed practitioner under federal law (21 U.S. Code § 353(b)). Linking FutureClinic to the AI chat you already use lets you get medical care through your agent via message, skipping appointments, waiting rooms, and camera calls.

Can a dermatologist evaluate hair thinning by message?

For many skin, hair, and nail concerns, message-based care fits naturally. Dermatology is a visual field where a clear timeline, well-lit scalp photos, and follow-up comparisons over months answer much of what an exam would. By message, your physician can evaluate your hair loss, diagnose the cause, send a prescription to your pharmacy, order lab tests, or refer you for an in-person exam.

On FutureClinic, you can reach both generalists and specialists, with more than 280 doctors spanning 63 specialties. Because your health deserves physician-level expertise, every clinician on FutureClinic holds an MD, a DO, or an MBBS degree, and never a nurse practitioner or physician assistant. Before taking patient cases, each doctor is verified and vetted by our team.

What should I tell my AI about my hair?

We believe personal AI agents are the future of how people manage their health. A clinic clipboard cannot absorb your past AI chats. Connected to FutureClinic, your AI can draft intake answers from details you have already shared, like a medicine started in spring or recent stress. You simply review that draft, so you never repeat yourself or start over with an empty questionnaire.

The AI only assists with organizing your history; every clinical judgment and treatment decision belongs to the physician. Describe what is happening in your own words, and cover these points:

  • When you first noticed the crown thinning, and whether it came on slowly or fast.
  • The pattern: diffuse across the crown, receding at the hairline, or in patches.
  • Family history of similar hair loss, and at what age it started.
  • Any illness, surgery, stress, weight shift, or new medicine in the last six months.
  • Scalp symptoms like itching, flaking, redness, or tenderness.
  • Treatments you have already tried and for how long.
  • Current medicines, allergies, and whether you are or might be pregnant.

How do I take photos a dermatologist can use?

Clear photos do heavy lifting in a hair visit. Five simple habits give your physician a reliable baseline:

  1. Use natural daylight. Stand near a window and turn off the flash, which washes out scalp detail.
  2. Shoot the crown from straight above. Ask someone to help, or hold the phone overhead using the timer.
  3. Part your hair down the middle. Take one close-up focused along the center part.
  4. Add an older photo. If you have an earlier shot of your crown, include it for comparison.
  5. Skip filters and edits. Keep the true color and focus sharp.

During your initial setup, the AI app launches futureclinic.com in your web browser, where you log in and grant permission to share your answers and scalp photos and read your chats and health record.

What happens after I confirm my summary, and what does it cost?

  1. Approve your summary. Your AI prepares a visit summary with your photos attached. Nothing reaches a doctor without your yes.
  2. Select how your case is routed. Checkout happens on FutureClinic's page with no subscription required and no insurance needed. You can choose the $40 default most patients use to match with the best-fit doctor in the clinic, or select one of the recommended doctors (including specialists) at that physician's listed price, typically $20 to $100. Every price is shown before you pay.
  3. Read your physician's response. Written replies typically come back in a few hours, and you hear back almost always on the same day or the next. With your treatment plan, your physician includes a Human Signature, a live-recorded video or audio note made for you so you know a real doctor evaluated your scalp one to one.

When your doctor responds, FutureClinic sends an email (plus a mobile push alert if you have the FutureClinic app), or you can ask your AI chat, "Did my doctor reply?"

Who profits from the treatment plan?

Plenty of telehealth sites and hair-loss brands generate their revenue from the treatments they sell directly or from recurring monthly product bundles. FutureClinic sells no medicines or products. If treatment is appropriate, your prescription goes to whatever local pharmacy you prefer, and your physician earns nothing extra when ordering lab work or prescribing medication. Your fee buys one thing: independent medical judgment, as close as it gets to a doctor whose only incentive is your care.

Why does the same doctor matter for hair loss?

Hair grows slowly, so visible changes take months. Once your first consultation wraps up, you can continue working with the same doctor. Updated scalp photos, treatment questions, or refill requests all return to that same doctor inside your existing chat thread, whether you write from the FutureClinic mobile app or your AI chat. Take follow-up photos by the same window and angle for a clear side-by-side comparison. You see any follow-up price before paying.

Does this work for skin and nails too?

Yes. A recurring eczema flare or toenail fungus turning a nail thick and yellow works the exact same way: share your story, attach clear photos, get a plan by message, and follow up with the same doctor. FutureClinic doctors do not prescribe controlled medicines, including ADHD stimulants, opioids, benzodiazepines, testosterone, and sleep medicines such as zolpidem.

Where can I use FutureClinic, and how do I start?

Find your app's steps on the connect-your-AI page. If your AI app reads the web, paste this line:

Set up FutureClinic for me: read https://futureclinic.com/llms.txt

Once it's connected, make sure you instruct your AI to use FutureClinic to help find you a doctor. Otherwise, it may not know that this is what you want.

FutureClinic is not for emergencies: call 911 in an emergency, or call or text 988 in a mental-health crisis.

Questions, answered.

Can a dermatologist evaluate hair loss from photos?
Yes. For many hair, skin, and nail issues, a thorough history and clear daylight photos give a physician what they need to diagnose and treat by message. When more information is required, your doctor can order lab tests or refer you for an in-person exam.
What photos work best for thinning at the crown?
Stand near a window in natural daylight with the flash and filters turned off. Take one shot of your crown from straight overhead, one close-up of a clean middle part, and attach an older photo for comparison if you have one.
Can I follow up with the same doctor over the coming months?
Yes. Once your initial visit is complete, you can stick with the same doctor over time. Updated scalp photos, questions about side effects, and refill requests all stay in the same chat thread with that physician, accessible from either the FutureClinic app or your AI app.
Will FutureClinic try to sell me hair products or a monthly plan?
No. There is no subscription required, and FutureClinic sells no medications or hair products. Any prescription is sent to the local pharmacy of your choice, and your physician earns nothing extra when ordering labs or prescribing treatment.
