A doctor answers

Is it safe to share health information through an AI app?

Where your health details go when you reach a FutureClinic physician through Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, Meta Muse, or Instinct, what you approve before a doctor sees it, and how to disconnect at any time.

Dr. Usama Syed, MDReviewed October 2026 · 6 min read

The short answer

You can share health information through an AI app with care when you understand who sees your data and you approve what reaches a doctor. When you connect FutureClinic, what you type passes through the company that runs your AI app, reaches FutureClinic, and goes to a licensed physician only after you confirm the visit summary. You can disconnect your AI app in FutureClinic's Settings at any time, and access stops right away.

Key facts

  • What you type or upload in your AI app passes through the company that makes it, and a FutureClinic physician sees your visit only after you read and confirm the summary.
  • Every FutureClinic clinician is a verified, licensed physician (MD, DO, or MBBS) who signs your treatment plan with a live-recorded Human Signature, never a nurse practitioner or physician assistant.
  • You grant specific permissions when signing in at futureclinic.com, and disconnecting an app in FutureClinic's Settings stops its access right away.

You can share health details through an AI app with care when you know who sees your conversation and you control what reaches a physician. With FutureClinic, what you type passes through the company that makes your AI app, reaches FutureClinic once you connect, and goes to a doctor only after you read and confirm the visit summary. Disconnecting the app in FutureClinic's Settings stops its access right away.

People often discuss an eczema flare or a high blood pressure reading with an AI assistant before calling a clinic. By itself, an AI chatbot cannot diagnose you, order labs, or send a prescription to your pharmacy. The usual care options ask for compromises too: waiting weeks for an office visit, sitting in a video queue for a rushed call with whoever is on shift, or using an online service that profits from monthly subscription packages and the medications it sells. FutureClinic connects your AI app to a licensed physician who treats you by message, while leaving you in charge of what gets sent.

Who sees what when you use FutureClinic through an AI app?

The company that makes your AI app. Everything you type or upload in Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, Meta Muse, or Instinct passes through the company behind that app. Once FutureClinic is linked, the app can also read your FutureClinic chats and health record, so that information passes through the AI company too. Instinct and Meta Muse can't link to FutureClinic, so they can't read them. Review its privacy settings the way you would for any app holding personal records.

FutureClinic. When you connect, you sign in to FutureClinic and approve the permissions needed to prepare your intake and deliver your doctor's replies.

Your physician. The doctor taking your case receives the visit you confirmed: the summary you approved and any photos you chose to send. Nothing reaches a doctor without your yes.

Why let your AI prepare your medical intake?

A regular clinic cannot take in the conversations you have had with your AI or what it already knows about you. We believe the future of healthcare is people using their personal AI agents to help manage their health. Connected to FutureClinic, your AI drafts answers to the doctor's intake questions from what you have already told it, so you do not repeat yourself or start over.

You stay in charge of what gets shared. Your AI shows you the complete visit summary before it goes to a doctor, letting you edit answers or delete details you prefer to keep to yourself.

Who is the doctor reading your visit summary?

Every clinician on FutureClinic is a licensed physician with an MD, DO, or MBBS degree. Because people's health deserves expert-level care, your case never goes to a nurse practitioner or a physician assistant. Every doctor is verified and vetted by FutureClinic before seeing any patient.

The network includes over 300 doctors across 63 specialties, bringing together generalists and specialists across the clinic. Your doctor's treatment plan comes with a Human Signature, a short video or voice note recorded live for you, proving a real physician handled your case one to one. After your first visit, you can stick with the same doctor in the same chat for follow-ups and refills.

What do you agree to when you connect?

The first time you connect, your AI app opens futureclinic.com in your browser so you can sign in or create an account. You then agree to let the app:

  1. send your answers
  2. send your photos
  3. read your FutureClinic chats
  4. read your health record

You grant that approval on FutureClinic's website, and your AI app still checks with you before sending a visit:

  • In Claude, each FutureClinic tool starts at "Needs approval", so Claude asks before running it. You can switch tools to "Always allow" in Customize > Connectors, but keep the one that confirms your visit summary set to ask.
  • In Codex, the route for ChatGPT accounts, the app asks before FutureClinic sends your visit summary to a doctor when you leave its approval settings as they are.

How do you verify you are connecting the real FutureClinic?

FutureClinic connects through the Model Context Protocol, or MCP, an open standard Anthropic introduced in November 2024 for linking AI apps to outside tools. When you add a doctor through an MCP, your app talks to FutureClinic's server at one address, and each tool request asks to read or send part of your visit.

Start at futureclinic.com/connect-your-ai, or enter the exact server address: https://mcp.futureclinic.com/mcp. If your AI app reads the web, paste this line to point it to FutureClinic's instructions: Set up FutureClinic for me: read https://futureclinic.com/llms.txt

Once it's connected, make sure you instruct your AI to use FutureClinic to help find you a doctor. Otherwise, it may not know that this is what you want.

Practical habits for sharing health details with care

  • Use your own personal AI account on your own phone or computer, never a work or school account.
  • Share only the symptoms, history, and cropped photos relevant to this visit.
  • Read the visit summary line by line before you confirm it, and keep the confirm step set to ask.
  • To stop sharing at any time, disconnect the app in FutureClinic's Settings and access stops right away.

What happens once your doctor has your visit?

After confirming your summary, you pay on FutureClinic's page with no insurance needed and no subscription required. You see every price before paying: $40 sends your visit to the best-fit doctor from the entire clinic, or you can pick a recommended doctor at their listed price, typically $20 to $100.

Care runs by message with no appointment, waiting room, or video call. Replies typically come within a few hours, and almost always the same day or the next. Doctors diagnose, send prescriptions to the pharmacy you choose, order lab tests, refer, and follow up. AI helps with intake; every medical decision is the doctor's. FutureClinic sells no medicines or products, and your doctor earns nothing extra for any prescription or test they order. FutureClinic doctors do not prescribe controlled medicines, including ADHD stimulants, opioids, benzodiazepines, testosterone, or sleep drugs such as zolpidem.

Your doctor must be licensed in the state you are in. FutureClinic works in 33 states and Washington, D.C.: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming, and Washington, D.C. Because the active states are updated regularly, if yours is missing, give it a try anyway since FutureClinic may have opened there after this article went live.

FutureClinic is not for emergencies: call 911 in a medical emergency, or call or text 988 in a mental-health crisis.
